Hydro is a globally leading aluminium producer. The Primary Metal Commercial is responsible for the global sale of all of Hydro’s casthouse products from both fully owned and partly owned facilities.
Description of Job
The R&D Leader will head a department of around 25 highly competent and experienced researchers mainly located at the R&D center in Sunndalsøra Norway, but we are also establishing a hub in the US. The R&D center is organized within the Hydro Primary Metal Commercial organization, with main tasks to carry out development programs on casthouse products (alloy development) and casthouse processes. Together with our commercial organization you will be central in developing plans and strategies for R&D projects, ensure quality in the project execution as well as securing implementation of relevant results/innovations. Furthermore, you will be overall responsible for developing the R&D organization further by attracting world class researchers, foster a creative and stimulating work environment, and ensure that R&D is well integrated into our business.

Main Responsibilities
- Identify relevant needs/trends in the market/industry by being well connected to relevant people organizations both internally and externally.
- Long term planning of R&D resources and focus areas
- Initiate new development projects in line with strategies
- Ensure an efficient development process from idea through implementation
- Succession planning and recruitment
- Communication of results & innovations within the company
- Maintain and develop our network/collaboration with external partners both within the industry and with academia
Desired Qualifications
- University degree within relevant subject, and a keen interest for innovation/business development
- Experience in product development and/or implementation of new developments.
- Ability for strategic thinking
- Ability to communicate abstract ideas in an effective way across all layers in the organization
- International experience – fluent in English
- Experience from R&D management
